Peacock Blue Banarasi Silk Saree with Buttis and Kadhwa Palla
The saree is woven on a twin silk warp and has a very luxurious texture. This is a very old design from the Banaras textile centre. The intricate meenakari in the boota add to the richness of this saree.
The intricate and arduous Kadwa procedure is utilised to fuse Motifs. In Kadwa weaving, every theme is woven independently instead of other Banarasi handloom sarees (otherwise called "phekwa" or cutwork sarees). In Kadwa sarees, there are no free strings at the back of the texture and subsequently, no cutting is required. Utilising this weave technique a wide range of themes of various sizes, hues and surfaces can be woven on a similar sari, which is very hard to do something else. While this takes longer on the handloom, it makes a progressively hearty example, which emerges on the texture.
